A panel provides a focussed way for an audience to ask questions of a panel of experts or thought leaders. It is similar to but more structured than a goldfish bowl.
The panel is organized around a central topic chosen by the organizer, and panellists are often asked to prepare a position statement in advance. The panellists are chosen by the organizer for their broad range of (often opposing) opinions on the discussion topic. Someone – usually the organizer – acts as a moderator to give the audience a balanced spread of the opinions of the panellists.
During the panel, the audience may ask questions of the panel via the moderator, and the moderator selects which panellists may give an answer (often all of them).
