A game or simulation is a good way to learn about complicated topics in which many conflicting, complicated or subtle factors are at work.
The organizer, who is usually a topic expert, develops the game or simulation to allow participants to experience for themselves how the various factors interact and change the observed output. The session should improve their tacit knowledge of the topic and increase their sensitivity and awareness of subtle issues.
As well as participation in the game, most sessions will encourage attendees to discuss their own subjective learning to help round out the experience of others. As such, games and simulations lie somewhere between tutorials and workshops.
