Are we “crossing the chasm” or being driven out of our own movement by parvenues – or are they the same thing? Are the pioneers of the movement burning out from having to repeat themselves so often, or is it just time for new blood? Is there anything we can, or should, do to address Cargo Cult Agile? What is Agile anyway?

There was a lot of discussion earlier in the year about the state of the Agile movement. Some talked about being “Post-Agile”. Brian Marick talked about break up the Agile Alliance. The Scrum Alliance got more serious about levels of certification. And there seem to be more consultancies in the market than ever.

Meanwhile, some of the responses to Robert Cringley’s articles on IBM describe how awful some corporate IT can be. There are still plenty of organisations that need Agile.

In keeping with the London tradition, this session will be structured as a Goldfish Pub Discussion, like a Goldfish Bowl but around a pub table. I’ll aim to run it as three 15 minute sessions, each addressing a single question. I’ll seed the table with 3 highly verbal activitists who will kick off each topic with a Goldfish Pub Rant.

I’ll see if I can provide beer.
